With the notable exception of our favourite ducks and by that I mean The Good Luck Ducks, there seems to be a lot less boondocking this year in comparison to other years. Maybe it’s just the blogs I’m reading, but I do read a lot of blogs each day. However, there does seem to be a significant drop-off. The annual Quartzsite happening is an exception but that seems more like one giant RV Park on sand, dirt and gravel than actual boondocking.
The Good Luck Ducks are doing their best to promote boondocking
Even one of the most vocal blogger advocates of boondocking, Al of the Bayfield Bunch, has been holed up in his house in Congress ever since arriving in early November. His only excursion was last week when they ventured out for a 2 night stay – 1 night in the Clark Dry Bed of Borrego Springs where they got blown away, then a final night in a Home Depot parking lot in the heavily populated Indio area.
The Clark Lake Dry Bed was a lot more barren than usual last week
A few weeks ago, while driving through Anza-Borrego State Park near Borrego Springs, I passed by one of the big boondocking sites in this area – the Clark Lake Dry Bed. There were a few dozen rigs parked out in the desert but not near as many as I’ve seen in previous years.
We love to boondock by day and enjoy all comforts at night!
It could very well be that I’m totally off-base with my perception that there are fewer boondockers around, especially in blogland, than in previous years. The reasons for that are many including that I’m not a fan of boondocking so I don’t necessarily pay much attention to it nor do I go looking for remote desert spots to stay in.
My idea of boondocking is to go for long hikes in the nearby deserts, mountains and trails then head back to all the comforts of our 5’er and resort. As for our RV resort, the Sands here in Desert Hot Springs has been enjoying their best year ever. Even now, if you haven’t already reserved and paid for a premium wash site for next season then you’re probably out of luck because they’re all taken. We reserved ours for 2014 when we arrived here this year.
So, how about where you are or where you’ve been travelling this snowbird season, are you seeing fewer boondockers, more or just about the same?
Last night we downloaded and watched a movie from iTunes called The Master. It had a pretty good cast including Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams so we were expecting a pretty good film.
It was pretty bad. No doubt the worst movie we’ve watched in a few years. I’m not even going to get into trying to describe it because most of it we never even understood. it scores a 2 out of 10.
Have a great day, and thanks again for visiting!
