Phil Comes Through In Great Style For Poker Night

Phil had us a bit worried, I’ll admit, after his story about throwing a “roadkill” into his trunk while in Saskatchewan last week and his plans to feed it to us, his poker buddies, last night.  Even though we didn’t get our complete Turkey Dinner (for the 43rd year in a row), the sandwiches and donuts he served were sure a lot more tasty than any Rocky Racoon might have been.

In fact, Phil went all out by making real Turkey sandwiches for us – at least we were all pretty sure it was Turkey unless the cranberry sauce was meant to disguise it.  Not only that, he bought a box of Tim Horton’s donuts which I was thrilled to see.  That was the very first donut I’ve had since back in August – it sure was good, both of them!

Nothing like a Timmy’s donut before bedtime!IMG_0351IMG_0352

As usual, poker was a great night out with a lot of laughs even though not much money every changes hands – just a bunch of poker chips.  Our buy-in is $3 and after a little over 3 hours of poker I ended up .30 cents ahead only by winning half of the last pot.  That will be the last poker night until we get back from Palm Springs next April.

First thing Wednesday morning Paulette was off to Victoria, first to meet up for a walk and coffee with her sister Arlene;  and, after that meet up with Claire for lunch.  I gather from what Paulette said her and Claire spent most of their time gaming out and plotting Claire’s visit with us in late January.  The “mad quilters” have been busy planning day trips to San Diego, Temecula and the Road To California Quilt Show in Los Angeles.  I will be the trusty chauffeur for what is going to be a pretty hectic quilt shop extravaganza.

As for me, I had a fairly quiet day and just took a few more items out to the 5’er.  Since I knew it was going to be a very late night (e.g. staying up past 10pm), I took advantage of the quiet house just to do some reading with a bit of siesta after lunch.

By the time Paulette got home it was just after 3pm and that gave us just enough time to take Molly and Rylie down to the Mill Bay Nature park for a hike before it got dark.  When we walked down to the beach we saw there was a pod of Seals feeding out in the middle of the Bay.  We counted about a half-dozen of them at least but it was hard to tell as they were under the water most of the time.

It seemed like every time I snapped a picture the seal dove underIMG_0094

Finally, one of the Seals was curious to surface and take a lookIMG_0112

After about 15 minutes, we got tired of playing hide and seek with the seals and left the beach to continue our hike through the trail in the woods.

It’s about 12:30 am as I’m writing this having gotten home from Victoria just after midnight.  I’m pretty tired so I’m just going to sign-off and get to bed.

Have a great Thursday, and thanks again for visiting!
