Visa Fraud & An Afternoon Drive To Lake Cahuilla

Early Friday morning, Paulette signed on to JoAnn’s Fabrics website  to buy some kind of fabric ruler but her Visa Card was rejected.  Everything seemed o.k. from what I could see so I phoned the RBC Visa Center and was told Paulette’s card had been suspended due to questionable purchases.  Like what?  How about a techie device in Philadelphia and airline tickets on Lufthansa and Swiss Air?

Did we buy tickets on Lufthansa Airlines?  Umm…..No!!B747-8-Lufthansa

When we told the service rep that wasn’t us, she immediately reversed all the charges, cancelled Paulette’s card and said they would mail a new Visa card to us here in Palm Springs that very same day.  It was quick, efficient and painless.  Paulette had only used her Visa a few times here in Palm Springs and all for in-person purchases so this scam was done through a regular store transaction.

Once we got the Visa situation settled, we turned our attention to a few domestic chores.  Paulette took a big load of laundry up to the park laundromat while I took care of the holding tanks, straightened up our backyard and then declared work done for the day.  While waiting for Paulette to return from the laundromat, I spent some time relaxing in the warm, morning sun.

Quite a while ago, I heard about a County Park south of La Quinta called the Lake Cahuilla Recreation Area.  This County park not only has a lake but it’s also an RV Park with close to a hundred sites.  We decided to go for a drive out to La Quinta and have a look.

The route to Lake Cahuilla took us right past the PGA West Golf Course where President Bill Clinton’s Humana Golf Tournament is taking place this week.  There seemed to be thousands of cars parked in the huge parking area.  Golf seems to be a national religion on Palm Springs no matter what area we’re in.

Lake Cahuilla was actually a bit of a disappointment as it looked to be a man-made lake and there were no hiking trails anywhere.  The RV Park wasn’t all that great although there were about 30 MH’s and 5’ers in the sites.  It looked to be electric and water with a central sewer dumping station.  There was a separate boondocking area that they termed “Primitive Sites” – I kind of liked that terminology.

We didn’t stay long at Lake Cahuilla.  Back at the Sands, I quickly changed and headed up to the pool for a swim while Paulette opted for a hike around the park with Molly and Rylie.  For dinner, I drove into Desert Hot Springs and picked up a pizza from Rocky’s New York Pizza – and yes, it was every bit as good as it looked.

Have a great Saturday, and thanks again for visiting!
