Our Small BBQ Plans Mushroom To Over 30 Guests

Once in a while, in our family, I’m not the only one that comes up with an idea that gets completely out of control.  On rare occasions, Paulette does this as well.  It’s strange though how my great ideas often turn out disastrous while Paulette’s become successful and fun.  It happened again yesterday as a plan to host a very small BBQ to welcome Sienna and Jack to the Sands turned into a BIG party!!

We had close to 30 guests for the quilter’s BBQIMG_0626

Like Paulette, Sienna is a quilter and is the same friend who very kindly gifted Paulette her original B-Line Quilting Frame last fall.  That gift soon snowballed into a new Pfaff Sewing machine and a larger, all-metal Inspira Quilting Frame – but, that’s a whole ‘nother story!  So, the plan was to host a BBQ at our place for a few quilters from back home in B.C. who also knew Sienna.

My job was flippin’ burgers!IMG_0638

Next thing I know, the list of guests has mushroomed from 8 or 10 to just over 30 as all quilters from the park were invited to the BBQ.  And, because of the size of the group, our friend Judy volunteered to let us move the BBQ to her site as she has a park model with a large carport seating area.  A pot-luck style BBQ was quickly put in motion with Paulette and I providing the burgers, buns and fixin’s.

We lucked out weather wise as Monday was the hottest day of our stay here at the Sands this year.  The temperature rose up into the 80’s and by the time I started up the BBQ late in the afternoon it was still in the high 70’s.  I got the job of being the chief cook slaving over a hot grill flippin’ burgers.  Compared to all the organizing that Paulette and Judy had to do I shouldn’t complain as my job was easy.

Some folks just took a piece of cake, but Sandy…….IMG_0642

It was great to meet many of the other quilter’s husband’s for the first time so we could trade stories about the strange phenomenon of quilting addiction.

The before dessert tableIMG_0644

It was a terrific party with tasty appetizers, potato salad, other salads, and a great bean chilli dish prepared by Judy.  Of course, like most RVing events the desserts took center stage and we had a wide variety of decadent choices.

The BBQ was a huge success and will no doubt now become an annual event here at the Sands.  Other than the dinner, it was a pretty quiet day enjoying the perfect weather with a refreshing swim in the pool and lounging around reading a bit.  More of the same for Tuesday!

Have a great Tuesday, and thanks again for visiting!
