Ever since we first started coming to Palm Springs over 6 years ago, we’ve always made it a tradition to take in the downtown Street Fair at least once. It’s always fun, dogs are welcome and they have food vendors representing a wide host of countries. The main street, Palm Canyon Drive, is barricaded to block vehicles for about a 6 block stretch and booths line each curb selling their wares.
The Street Fair in Palm Springs is still packing them in
Last night was a perfect night for us to go as it was still 70F when we parked the truck and walked a short block to the beginning of the Street Fair. It was already crowded with people but not so bad that we couldn’t move along easily even with Molly and Rylie on leashes.
A Greek Food Booth – not sure what that thing in the middle is!
Over the years, not much has changed with this event but that doesn’t mean it isn’t interesting and fun. Just looking at all the different people is entertaining enough. But, there is all kinds of art from paintings to jewellery, pottery and even some strange and very esoteric crafts – like ornaments made from kitchen forks!
Lots of great looking fresh produce from local farms
We didn’t feel all that adventurous as far as trying some kind of exotic food so Paulette and I settled for a vendor who was making Wood Fired Pizza. He had an oven going and it was definitely a wood fire and the pizza that came out of it was excellent. I still couldn’t guarantee I could tell the difference between a wood fired pizza and one that came out of a regular oven.
The sidewalk cafes do a roaring business on Thursday nights
If street food vendors don’t appeal to you, then you’re lucky as Palm Springs has an abundance of great restaurants along Palm Drive. It’s warm enough to eat outside most evenings so a sidewalk table is a great place to have an enjoyable dinner and watch the parade of folks walking down the center of the main drag.
Marilyn is still the biggest single draw downtown!
We spent about 90 minutes walking around and stopping for pizza before walking back to our truck and heading back to the Sands. It’s a good thing we went to fair last night because that’s about the only thing we did except lay around enjoying another perfect day here with temperatures creeping all the way towards 80F – bring it on!
Have a great Friday, and thanks again for visiting!
